DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF LABORATORY TECHNICIAN
The following will be the
duties and responsibilities of a Laboratory Technician:
1.
CUSTOMER RESPONSIBILITIES
a.
Ensure all Laboratory personnel follows the
established customer interaction protocols with patients.
b.
Ensure that patients receive the laboratory
tests on time.
c.
Ensure comfort to the patient during and
after sample collection.
d.
Provide adequate information to the patient
regarding precautions to be taken
for the test if required and the time of delivery of the report.
2. PROCESS RESPONSIBILITIES
a. Maintains
departmental policies and procedures, quality assurance programs, and safety,
environmental, and infection control standards.
b. Ensuring proper collection, identification, handling, safe
transportation, processing, and disposal of specimens.
c. Immediate reporting of critical values to a concerned
consultant.
d. Transcribing
materials, filing, and maintaining all files.
e. Ensure
proper Bio-Medical waste segregation and cleanliness.
f. Be
vigilant towards all hazardous chemicals in the Laboratory and ensure their
proper use.
g. Run the
Quality controls for all lab tests daily and maintain records.
h. Update
all laboratory procedures area-wise and consults the head pathologist when
required.
i. Ensures
that the NABL standardization process is in place as per the deadline.
j. Ensure
proper functioning of the equipment at all times.
k. Monitor and record downtime of all
equipment.
l. Maintaining proper records of
outsourced tests and their timely receiving.
3.
PEOPLE
RESPONSIBILITY
a. To be responsible for all Laboratory
staff who report to the position.
b. Provides
on-job orientation to Laboratory staff and keeps them informed of the
philosophies, policies, and procedures to be followed in caring for patients
and their families.
c. Provides
for in-service and/or continuing education for the Laboratory staff.
d. Plans
staff work assignments and schedules.
e. Provides
Basic department orientation to new employees.
