OT Technician Job description

 


Duties & Responsibilities: 

1. Maintenance of all Equipment and Monitors
• To check electrical points, electric equipment, plugs, OT lights, suction machines, diathermy machines, and monitors.  Faulty/ malfunctioning equipment is brought to the notice of the appropriate authority (Electrician, maintenance / biomedical engineer, etc.).
• To check anaesthesia machine, cylinders, central pipe line, and anaesthesia instruments like laryngoscopes, Endo tracheal tubes, airways, and Magill forceps.
• Empty gas cylinders to be sent for refilling at the earliest.
2. Proper record of cylinders, both empty and filled.
3. Ensure that equipment like laparoscopic, C-arm, microscopes, and anaesthesia monitors are in working order.
4. Supervise cleaning of OT and OT equipment; assist fumigation of OT suite.
5. Receiving patient into OT and shifting patient into ICU postoperatively in coordination with Nursing staff & ICU Incharge respectively.
6. Maintain 
• OT Indent Register
• Equipment Register
• Stock Register – check drugs stock and expiry

 

7. Timely submission of OT list (Tentative/ final) to MS office.
8. To go through the pre operative checklist
• To confirm ‘consent for surgery’ in the patient file.
• Ensure patient is in proper OT attire and not wearing jewelry, spectacles, artificial dentures, nail polish, etc.
• To coordinate with concerned Surgeon & Anesthetist for preparing instruments.
9. To assist Anaesthetist in administering clinical anaesthesia
• Ensure OT table is disinfected and position checked.
• Drugs, disposables like cannulae and syringes arranged on the anaesthesia trolley as required.
• Maintenance of Emergency drug tray in every OT.
• Help during lines, induction and procedures.
• Maintain a written record of all anesthesia drugs as well as narcotics used for proper billing and getting doctor’s signature as per procedure (Narcotics Register).
